A connectome is a comprehensive map of neural connections in the brain that is thought of as its “wiring diagram”. An art connectome is a map of the obvious and not so obvious relationships of artists. The Matisse Duchamp Van Gogh Connectome shows how through marriage and art instruction these three artists are connected. This provides new insight into the relationship of Matisse and Duchamp who are considered two of the three the most influential artists of the early 20th century and Vincent Van Gogh a Post Impressionistic painter whose work today is among the worlds’ most expensive.

This work also builds on Alfred H. Barr Jr.’s famous “Cubism and Abstract Art” chart that  illustrates the historical developments currents and cross currents of these movements. Alfred H. Barr Jr. was the founding Director of the Museum of Modern Art, MOMA.
